Virginia Tech’s former athletic director Jim Weaver died early Wednesday night. Jim Weaver announced his retirement in 2013 because of health concerns. He had been the athletic director since 1997. Weaver battled Parkinson’s disease since 2004. His efforts as athletic director were recognized in 2009 with the prestigious John L. Toner Award.
