College AD has obtained an internal memo confirming David Matlin as the next athletic director at the University of Hawaii. The announcement will be made in a press conference at noon local tome today. The full body of the memo can be found below.
SENT ON BEHALF OF CHANCELLOR ROBERT BLEY-VROMAN
I wanted to let all of you know where we stand with the Athletics Director search, and with some good news. I recommended to President Lassner and the Board of Regents the appointment of David Matlin as the next Director of Athletics, and pursuant to State law, it will be posted on or about April 9, 2015 for the next Board of Regents meeting on April 16th. The comments I received from internal and external constituents strongly support this recommendation.
Matlin’s last 13 years of affiliation with ESPN and managing the Hawai‘i Bowl, Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic, and the Hawaiian Islands Invitational has allowed him to build relationships with NCAA conferences, athletic directors, and national organizations, all of which will bring positive benefits to the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. He is one of nine members on the Executive Committee of the Football Bowl Association which is the national organization established to promote, protect and ensure the quality of the student athlete experience for all college bowl games. His outstanding reputation locally and nationally in the field, makes him the best candidate to lead the Department of Athletics.
Best wishes,
Chancellor Bley-Vroman
