The Wisconsin Athletic Department is proposing at $3 per football game ticket increase in 2014.

Athletic director Barry Alvarez said in an email to season ticket holders Tuesday that the increase, which amounts to $21 per season ticket package on a seven-game home schedule next season, is the first increase in four years and the second in eight years.

The funds from the increased ticket price will be used to combat increased operational expenses and the potential of unexpected costs not accounted for. Additionally, the funds from the increased ticket prices would also go toward travel expenses for UW teams.

The Badgers averaged 78,911 fans over seven home games this season, the lowest since 2003. The suites and club seats on the east side of the stadium opened in 2004, pushing the average attendance over 80,000 for the first time.

In addition to an increase in ticket prices, The Wisconsin athletic department has found a unique way to engage its fans.

Twenty-five individuals have been named to the University of Wisconsin Athletic Department’s first Fan Advisory Council. 25 Badgers fans were chosen from nearly 800 applicants. The group gathered for its first meeting with UW Athletics officials on Monday, Nov. 25, at 6 p.m. in Heritage Hall at Camp Randall Stadium.

“We are thrilled to welcome this group of Wisconsin fans to the initial Fan Advisory Council,” UW Associate Athletic Director for External Relations Justin Doherty said. “We are very much looking forward to mutually beneficial conversation and we see a great opportunity for education and collaboration.”
