When looking at the competition and schedule for Western Illinois athletic programs, you’ll notice quite a change in Summit League schedules. Indiana University-Purdue University-Indianapolis (IUPUI) officially left the Summit League on July 1 to join the Horizon League, leaving a gap for the eight remaining Summit teams. And while the loss of IUPUI does hurt, losing teams is nothing new to the Summit and nothing new around college athletics.  “It’s very fluid and I say that regularly, and I think it will remain fluid,” WIU director of athletics Matt Tanney said of conference realignment. “Going into this next year we’ll be at eight in the Summit League, Fort Wayne is our nearest partner to the east and Omaha is our nearest member institution to the west. As a league, I think we have to continue to be conscientious and aware of those changes and be ready to take the necessary steps. “Conference realignment is always going to be out there.“ – SCOTT HOLLAND, mcdonoughvoice.comRead More
