The University of Tennessee has fired athletic director John Currie according to reports out of Knoxville. Currie came to Knoxville in February after serving as the athletic director at Kansas State but Currie’s future at UT recently came into doubt as the Vols coaching search has unfolded over the last week. Currie met with Tennessee officials early Friday morning after reportedly meeting with Washington State coach Mike Leach Thursday evening in Los Angeles about becoming Tennessee’s next football coach. Steve Berkowitz of USA Today is reporting that if Currie’s termination was without cause, he would be owed $5.5 million per the buyout clause in his contract.
