Words of encouragement — instead of pointed barbs — across the line in the Rutgers-Seton Hall rivalry? Welcome to the era of Pat Hobbs and Pat Lyons as athletics directors at intra-state rivals, both of whom are breaking fundraising records. Before Hobbs was hired in November 2015 as Rutgers athletics director, he was head of Seton Hall Law School, interim athletics director and head of the search committee that lured Lyons from Ionato be his full-time successor in February 2011. “My first year I was calling him all the time complaining like a typical AD who wants a shoulder to cry on,” Lyons said, smiling at the memory during an interview with NJ Advance Media. Over six years, Lyons has given each Seton Hall team its own locker room for the first time in school history and upgraded shared spaces for weight-lifting, athletic training and sports medicine. Team-specific updates include new scoreboards, a golf range and new stands. – RYAN DUNLEAVY, nj.comRead More
