Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith apparently increased the money pool for men’s basketball assistant coaches when he hired Chris Holtmann last week. Holtmann’s contract with Ohio State will actually pay him slightly less, at least this year, than what previous coach Thad Matta was set to make. Holtmann’s assistants, though, are getting significant bumps in pay over the previous coaching staff. Ohio State will pay Holtmann’s staff a combined sum just over $1 million, according to signed term sheets obtained by cleveland.com through an open records request. Ryan Pedon will be Holtmann’s highest-paid assistant at $395,000 per year. Mike Schrage will make $325,000. Terry Johnson will make $300,000. –  BILL LANDIS, cleveland.com Read More
