The dugouts are gone at Nicholls State University’s Colonels Softball Complex. Because of a significant gift from Neal Swanner and the Norm Swanner Foundation, the university recently announced improvements to the softball facility will be made prior to the 2018 softball season. These improvements include a synthetic turf infield and new dugouts, bleachers and lighting to enhance the look and atmosphere of the ballpark. Geo-Surfaces of Baton Rouge is doing the work on the infield, bleachers and lights, while Byron E. Talbot Contractor Inc. will erect the dugouts. Nicholls Athletic Director Matt Roan estimated the cost of the project is $600,000. Nicholls softball is coming off a successful 2017 season, finishing 37-20 overall and earning the No.2 seed at the Southland Conference Softball Tournament. The Colonels finished as the tournament runner-up after falling to McNeese State University in the championship game. –  Teddy Renois, dailycomet.comRead More
