Standing next to the same sand that she used to play on in college, Terri Del Conte felt back at home. Missouri State didn’t have a beach volleyball team back when Del Conte played for the indoor team, but it does now, and Del Conte is going to be the Bears’ first beach volleyball coach. “I played a lot when I was here,” Del Conte said. “It was more for fun, since (beach volleyball) wasn’t introduced yet.” Beach volleyball will become an official sport at Missouri State starting July 1. It takes the place of field hockey, which will be discontinued at the end of the current fiscal year. While announcing the discontinuation of field hockey on April 3, Missouri State Director of Athletics Kyle Moats said that by switching from field hockey to beach volleyball, the school expects to save $300,600 annually. – Wyatt D.
