A report in the July 9 edition of The Herald-Dispatch spelled out how the Marshall University athletics program finished the 2015-16 budget year with revenues from all sources, including the university, exceeding expenses by nearly $1.2 million. The athletic department’s total revenues were nearly $30.2 million, marking the first time they exceeded the $30 million mark. However, more than $13.7 million came from the university (much from student fees collected by the university) rather than from other program revenues. Here are some responses from readers about that report: “So confusing,” commented Jim Slade. “Landon writes articles stating we have financial difficulties … now (this article says) we have a surplus? Facts: we have no baseball field … football is a ‘dumpster fire’ … rank near the bottom in C-USA championships in all sports … no more money from me.” – herald-dispatch.comRead More
