Samantha Huge considers herself “a people person,” which is one reason she majored in sociology. It also explains a list of questions she emailed the athletic staff before her first day as William and Mary’s athletic director. Some were obvious, like what are our strengths, what can we do to get better, etc. But Huge also wanted to know their favorite restaurants, the last book they read, and whether they prefer coffee or tea — and how they take it. Each question was a way to get to know people on her new staff. Huge (pronounced “hugh-gee,” with a hard “g”) understands that as she gets used to them, they’ll be getting used to her. It’s not easy replacing a man who held the job for 21 years, as Terry Driscoll did. After previous stops that included Delaware and Texas A&M, Huge became W&M’s first female athletic director to head the entire department on May 1. – Dave Johnson, dailypress.comRead More
