The probationary period is over, and the shackles are off. Cal State University San Marcos’ transition from an NAIA program to NCAADivision II was completed Friday, so it’s full speed ahead for the Cougars. CSUSM President Karen Haynes and Director of Athletics Jennifer Milo received a call from the NCAA Membership Committee notifying them the university is now a full-fledged Division II member. An NAIA power for years, the university’s teams had been participating in the California Collegiate Athletic Association the last three years but were not eligible for postseason play. That ended with Friday’s announcement. Foster’s team would have been eligible for the CCAA postseason tournament last season had the Cougars been a full conference member. In fact, 10 of 13 teams at the university, which offers athletic scholarships, would have been eligible for the postseason. – John Maffei, sandiegouniontribune.comRead More
